1962-1984

A new generation of Stewart Warner speedometers.
  • 1962-1967 SPEEDOMETER

The 1962 to 1967 speedometers, nicknamed 'Tombstone' for their distinctive tombstone-shaped field beneath the pointer, feature a striking black-on-aluminum design. The faceplate, crafted from burnished aluminum with a reinforced rolled edge, showcases numerals, 2 MPH hash marks, dots, and the signature tombstone shape in the burnished metal. The background and Harley-Davidson logo are rendered in black, with the script logo positioned just below the trip meter opening. A vibrant red pointer completes the dynamic aesthetic.
  • 1968-1970 Speedometer

The 1968 to 1970 speedometers retained the burnished aluminum faceplates of the previous model but introduced a refreshed design in black. Departing from the previous script, the iconic Bar and Shield logo now took center stage. The numerals were refined to a smaller size, accompanied by 1 MPH hash marks for increased precision. The vibrant red pointer, a hallmark of the era, remained a key feature.
  • 1971-1976 SPEEDOMETER

Marking a departure from previous designs, the 1971-1976 speedometers featured a simplified aesthetic. A steel faceplate painted black replaced the burnished aluminum, with white numerals and 5 MPH hash marks providing clear readability. The Harley-Davidson logo returned in a straightforward block font below the trip odometer window, replacing the Bar and Shield. The pointer also received an update, showcasing a striking orange, white, and black design.
  • 1977-1984 SPEEDOMETER

Representing the final chapter of Stewart-Warner gauges on Harley-Davidson motorcycles, the 1977-1984 speedometers featured a distinctive dual-color design. White numerals and 1 MPH hash marks dominated the outer ring, while the inner ring displayed KPH speeds in cyan with 10 KPH hash marks. The pointer, echoing the previous generation, was simplified to a striking black and white scheme, omitting the orange accent.
